The Lonely Hearts Club

Directed and conceived by Anuja Ghosalkar

09 Oct 21 08:00 pm TO 09:30 pm

An online performance conceived and directed by Anuja Ghosalkar

A glitch in the network channels narratives of desire, passion and attraction into our computer screens, opening up conversations on diverse identities and their sexual experiences. A narrator from the glitch introduces a myriad of stories — somewhere in the ether, somebody has left the web camera on. An adolescent boy answers the phone one afternoon only to be confronted by new sensations, and an evolving queer self. Two lovers reminisce, converse and gyrate into finding a new love language with some desi tadka. A singer in the grim state of quarantine finds a handy pleasure tool in a place she least expects it. Over impromptu sexts, a dom tries his hand at role-reversal to discover new paths of romance. Two worlds collide when an academic and an indie pleasure performer challenge the audience’s imaginative boundaries of the erotics. And as we climax, the polarities of black and white are challenged inside a noir-esque cage, where the entrapment reveals the horizons of pleasure in its shades of grey. A pulsating and interactive journey into the labyrinths of isolation and connectivity in the digital world, The Lonely Hearts Club is a documentary theatre show that combines varied lived experiences of queer-ness and hetero-identities, reflecting upon voyeurism and vulnerability through the lens of erotica.
